Group Tour to the Pumpkin Patch 2015

Since 2011, we have offered Strawberry Picking Tours in the spring and Pumpkin Patch Tours in the fall. In 2019, the world turned upside down and COVID rocked our farm. We did the best we could to for our farm, family, and community by staying open with a drive-through produce line during that time. We operated like this for a couple of seasons. It’s kind of hard to believe now. But, we all made it work and made the best of it. During this time, we decided not to offer u-pick strawberries anymore. Instead, we started building our Country Store on our old u-pick strawberry patch. We also decided to postpone offering our Pumpkin Patch Tours until our construction was complete.  That time has come and we are settled into our new space. So, we are ready to add educational tours back on the agenda. We love hosting school groups and connecting children with agriculture.

* We do not offer U-Pick Strawberries.

2024 Educational Tours:

Pumpkin Picking & Feeding the Cows

At the Farmers’ Daughter we carry our love for growing strawberries and seasonal vegetables over into our pumpkin season, by growing our Jack-O-Lanterns and miniature pie pumpkins. Starting September 16th thru November 1st, 2024, teachers can bring their classes to the Farmers’ Daughter for an Educational Tour to the Pumpkin Patch. We  offer a SPECIAL hayride to our Pumpkin Patch that is unmatched anywhere else! You see, our tractor-pulled hay wagons have been retrofitted for carrying people and feeding our beef cattle at the same time! So, now riders get a close look at the cows AND pick a pumpkin, all in one trip!

Each field trip is tailored to the age group (pre-K through 3rd Grade, plus Exceptional Children of all ages), using NC Common Core Curriculum Standards and includes:

  • Story Time
  • Hands on Pumpkin activity
  • Tractor-pulled Hayride
  • “Feeding the Cows”
  • Educational lessons on the life cycle of a pumpkin plant, photosynthesis and pollination. All taught in the           Pumpkin Patch by Farmer Amy.
  • Students will pick out their very own miniature pie pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch.
  • Riders can also choose to pick-your-own sunflower, for $2 per flower (tax included), if accompanied by a        chaperone.
  • Playtime at our NEW Barnyard Play Area
  • Access to our Covered Picnic Shelter
  • Option of catered lunches from the Farmers’ Daughter Deli

The cost of the Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch is $11.95 (tax included) for Students, Parents, Siblings, and Teachers (2 teachers per class are admitted free). Children under the age of 2 are admitted free. However, they do not get a pumpkin. This field trip opportunity is for school groups of 15 or more. Additional pumpkins are available for purchase at our country store.

2024 Other Offerings:

Catered Lunches for Educational Tours:

Our old roadside stand has been partially disassembled to convert it  into an outdoor picnic area. It is available for group lunches and can seat approximately 35 children. Our Country Store has a Deli that opened in the fall of 2022. It is inspected by the Alexander County Health Department and has a Sanitation Score of 99%! We started catering lunches for Millersville Christian Academy in September of 2023, in addition to our daily lunch and dinner customers that have come to love our deli sandwiches!

Now, we can offer catered student meals to school groups for $5.95 (tax included) per student. The meals include a 6” ham or turkey & cheese sub, with lettuce & tomato, apple slices, and a juice box. Teachers can also have a bag of chips and a can of soda with their meals for $5.95 (tax included); instead of a juice box and apple slices. We will take care of everything you need, if this option is chosen, including serving the children. No lugging heavy coolers around for you!
